Sachsenpatent is a funding program by the Free State of Saxony that supports the protection of scientific inventions through patent filings.
Whether you're at the stage of evaluating your research results or ready to file a patent application, Sachsenpatent covers key steps including expert patent analysis, legal strategy, and filing costs.

Projects that have completed LP1 (Evaluation of Research Results)
What’s funded:
Service Package 1: Evaluation of Research Results (LP1)
Comprehensive assessment of the invention in comparison to the state of the art; evaluation of commercial exploitation potential (e.g., economic research, market analysis, cost-benefit analysis); advice and support in developing an intellectual property (IP) protection strategy.
Service Package 2: IP Applications and Supplementary Filings (LP2)
Covers official application fees and patent attorney costs for patent filings and follow-up applications. Optionally, services by a patent attorney for trademark and design registration can also be funded.
Service Package 3: Commercialization Activities (LP3)
Consulting and assessment of exploitation options, development of an IP-based commercialization strategy, preparation, support, and conclusion of non-disclosure agreements and licensing agreements. Includes preparation of exposés for publication, support in identifying and approaching potential licensees, assistance in contract negotiations, initial marketing and commercialization measures, and active participation in trade fairs.
Service Package 4: Portfolio Management and Further Commercialization (LP4)
Support in maintaining and managing the IP portfolio, as well as continuation of commercialization activities.
Important Note:
Funding for Service Package 1 (LP1) can only be granted if the patent application has not yet been submitted. Following a positive evaluation in LP1, all subsequent service packages may be eligible for funding.
